The body makes energy (ATP) mainly from carbohydrates, but when the storage of carbohydrates are used up the energy is made from lipids/fats (and in cases of starvation the body will turn to proteins as the final source to make energy). Usually the carbohydrates will be used up during the night and that is why many think that working out before breakfast will burn more fat… This is true in theory, but whether the long-term gain in training is effective is discussed quite a lot I believe.

Why morning before you eat? Don’t you need to eat 1 to 2 hours before your work out so you can have the carbs for energy and the protein for muscle growth and strength?
